From now until November 1, the Del Rey Manga and TheOtaku.com Art Contest is asking aspiring artists to create an original work of art expressing the theme of "winter" and upload their artwork to the New York Anime Festival section of TheOtaku.com. Once November begins, Del Rey Manga, TheOtaku.com, and the New York Anime Festival will be selecting 15 finalists whose work will all be put on display at the New York Anime Festival for all to see.
And there's more! New York Anime Festival attendees will get to vote for their favorites, with the winners announced during the Anime Festival's Closing Ceremonies.
Great! But what about the prizes? TheOtaku.com will also be sending the first-place winner a copy of Art of Otaku, and Del Rey Manga will be mailing the winner a copy of every manga it publishes in 2008. That's right, free manga for a year from your friends at Del Rey!
(You've got to be at least 18 to receive Del Rey's Mature titles. If you're under 18, you'll receive everything but their books for grown-ups.)
Second and third place winners will both receive a copy of Art of Otaku from TheOtaku.com and a copy of an upcoming manga from Del Rey.
Sounds good? What are the rules? The Official Rules are here, but the plain and simple version is…
Sharpen your pencils, fire up Photoshop, login to TheOtaku.com, and start thinking about snow, ice, penguins, and polar bears. December isn't that far away!
(And while you're at it, don't forget to subscribe to the Del Rey Manga and New York Anime Festival e-mail newsletters!)
